The “Medina Guimarães” Office has always been concerned with the harmony between environmental preservation and the corporate characteristics of society. Based on a study by its environmental board, as well as the services already provided to clients to neutralize the emission of greenhouse gases, the Office took the responsibility to make efforts to become as close as possible to a self-sustaining firm. Some works were developed: a) in partnership with the junior company CONSEQ, from the Department of Chemical Engineering - UEM (State University of Maringá), it was calculated that the office has the annual potential to generate about 53 tons carbon dioxide, which would require about 730 trees to carry out the compensation; b) because of that, the right to use a total area of 22 hectares was acquired, of which 17.3 hectares are for reforestation and 4.7 hectares for permanent preservation, which, according to a forestry engineer report, offers the number of 21,000 trees destined for the capture of carbon produced by the office. In other words, in addition to the 4.4 hectares of mandatory environmental preservation area, that has 0.3 hectares of preserved and surplus forest, for the sole purpose of environmental preservation, and yet the entire area for economic purposes has the surface covered with trees that, for at least twenty years, will only be getting carbon from the atmosphere. There is a great deal of overcoming the needs pointed out by the CONSEQ report, which makes the office considered a zero carbon entity.
Another important contribution to the environment is that all the energy consumed by the office comes from its own photovoltaic sources, making unnecessary any use of public energy.
Besides, other interesting projects were developed, such as the selective collection of garbage and the reuse of rainwater for cleaning purposes.
Finally, based on the actions described above, the Medina Guimarães Office has the immense honor of announcing that it obtained the CONSEQ seal of total neutralization of greenhouse gases for operation in the years 2020 and 2021, as well as of minimal damage to the environment, which guarantees that the firm is becoming a self-sustaining office.
